Venezuela is finishing in fifth place in the final standings of the V IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup. The defeated Chinese Taipei 6-1 at John Fry Park on Sunday afternoon to claim the top spot in the consolation round. Three runs in the third and three in the seventh sealed their victory.
Women’s BWC: Canada wins Bronze Medal after Slugfest
Host Canada is ending up with the Bronze Medal at the V IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup in Edmonton. On Sunday afternoon they defeated Australia 17-13 in a mammoth slugfest, which not only featured 30 runs, but also 31 hits, four errors, ten different pitchers and the first homerun of the tournament.
Japan repeats as Women’s Baseball World Champion
Edmonton (Canada). Japan has won the V IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup in Edmonton, Canada. They shut out Team USA 3-0 in the Gold Medal Game on Sunday evening at Telus Field. It is their third straight title. The United States had won twice in tournament history.

Japan is back in the Gold Medal Game (Sunday at 5pm local time, live on YouTube) at the V IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup in Edmonton, Canada. They defeated Australia 5-1 in the first semi-final at Telus Field on Saturday afternoon. The Aussies struck first, but Japan’s offense answered right away to storm away with the victory. The team from Down Under will play in the Bronze Medal Game at 1pm on Sunday.

USA dismantled Canada 17-4 in the second semi-final at the V IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup to join Japan in the Gold Medal Game on Sunday. This sets up a meeting of two-time title holders in the final. It starts at 5pm local time and will be streamed live on YouTube.

Women’s BWC: Netherlands upsets Cuba to finish 7th
The Netherlands stunned Cuba with a 10-8 win on Sunday morning at Telus Field in Edmonton to claim seventh place in the final standings of the V IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup. It is the first victory for the Dutch team internationally or any European team. They scored three runs on a double by Galieth Haaker in the top of the seventh inning to erase a one-run deficit en route to a dramatic victory.
Women’s BWC: Venezuela stuns USA
It is probably the biggest upset at the V IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup so far. Venezuela stunned Team USA 5-1 in the afternoon game at John Fry Park. Four runs in the fourth decided the outcome, as the South American pitching issued just four hits in seven innings of play. Venezuela improved to 3-4 to end the first round. The United States dropped to 5-2 and has to wait until the evening to know if they are second or third.
Women’s BWC: Cuba wins Duel of winless Teams
Cuba has finally won a game in the V IBAF Women’s Baseball World Cup. They defeated the Netherlands 13-5 on Thursday afternoon at Telus Field, concluding the first round in Edmonton with a 1-6 record in seventh place. The Dutch team dropped to 0-7. Both teams will play in the consolation round this weekend, still having a chance to finish in fifth.
