Women's baseball is evolving internationally and within various countries.

Mexico, Philippines, China, France, Nicaragua and Czech Republic make historic debuts

LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- The World Baseball Softball Confederation today released the latest WBSC Women’s Baseball World Rankings, which have expanded to an all-time high of 20 nations and territories, following the incorporation of new and expanded women’s baseball competitions, such as the Asian, European and Pan-American championships.

Six-time defending WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup champions Japan remain the top-ranked nation in women’s baseball, followed by Canada (2nd) and Chinese Taipei (3rd).

Venezuela (4th) advanced one spot to overtake USA (5th).

Australia (6th) remains Oceania’s top-ranked nation, while Korea (7th) moved up in the rankings, bypassing Cuba (8th).

Following the establishment of their national women’s baseball programmes, Mexico (14th), Philippines (15th), China (16th), France (18th), Nicaragua (19th) and Czech Republic (20th) are all making their historic debuts in the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Rankings.

“Women’s baseball is one of the fastest growing disciplines for the WBSC so it’s important that we recognize the achievements of participating nations with inclusion in the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Rankings,” said WBSC President and Baseball Division Chairman Riccardo Fraccari. “And with four of the five Olympic continents – Americas, Asia, Europe and Oceania - represented, the worldwide reach of women’s baseball continues on its exciting trend through an increased popularity and global status.”

Advancing through their respective continental championships, China, France, Mexico and the Philippines will also be making their first-ever appearances in the WBSC Women’s Baseball World Cup 2020 this September in Mexico.
